The
Meadowvale Hawks Select Six team collected used hockey
equipment to help Rick Schell outfit children of this
remote community. The team is part of the Meadowvale
Minor Hockey Association's “Initiation to Hockey
Program” or “Ice Puppys”. The players are selected from
the top 6 year olds to compete against other
organizations and enter a few tournaments throughout the
year.
Our
objective of skill progressions encourage an environment
in which the players can learn the basic skills, master
these skills and have fun while developing a life-long
interest in hockey. We promote sportsmanship,
enjoyment, recreation and competition while placing a
strong emphasis on character development and life
skills. We are very fortunate to be part of such a
strong association and supportive community and we were
looking for an opportunity to share our good fortune.
Being a team of six year old girls and boys, we were
thrilled to have something that the children could
directly participate in and relate to. The team is very
excited to be helping Rick Schell send a Christmas
present to Pikangikum and to really make a difference in
the lives of the children of this remote community!
Each
team member approached friends, family and neighbours to
collect as much gear as possible prior to our Christmas
party. The team chose to help Rick in place of
exchanging gifts! The coaches and parents are very
proud of the team's efforts and the commitment that they
have made not only to the team, but to this remote
community.
